Hounslow Study Support Service is committed to offering a unique service of
high quality study support opportunities to Hounslow children and the wider
community. The Playing for Success project at Griffin Park Learning Zone is at
forefront of our work.
Griffin Park Learning Zone is part of the DFES Playing for Success
Programme (PfS), which uses out of hours learning to raise attainment at KS2 and
KS3 in literacy numeracy and ICT. There are currently 99 PfS Centres operating
in sports clubs nationwide, using a variety of sports to motivate Key Stage 2
and 3 pupils, with a focus on numeracy, literacy and ICT skills. Griffin Park
Learning Zone was the 89th PfS Centre.
Griffin Park Learning Zone is situated within the heart of Griffin Park, which
is home to Brentford Football Club. An ICT suite has been built within the
players' bar, which is used by the club on a match day.
The Hive:
In December 2007, we officially opened our newly redeveloped flexible learning
space, previously known as Stripes Bar. We were fortunate enough to gain
capital funding from the Learning Skills Council to undertake this work. Their
grant was a reflection of the high quality education programmes that both
ourselves and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust are involved in. The
Hive will allow us to extend our programme and you can read about how this is
happening on this website. Brentford FC make good use of the facilities
for hospitality on match days and the local community can still enjoy some
lively music gigs in a comfortable environment.

achievements by using the power of football to engage and motivate so many young
people in learning opportunities. Griffin Park Learning Zone has benefited from
Football Foundation funding as well as participating in other schemes that the
Foundation support, but we also recognise the drive and ambition of the learning
zone to do more.
